Monday Message – May 17, 2022

Well, I’m actually a day late… it’s Tuesday. I switched my days off this week and spent a wonderful 24 hours in Debert with a group of colleagues around the theme: Come, Let Us Laugh. We had some great storytelling, an engaging keynote speaker, the Rev. Susan Sparks, who zoomed in from New York, an in person presentation in the afternoon where we were encouraged/forced out of our comfort zones with drawing someone else’s story, some good food, some good connecting time and a maybe a beverage or two.

Worship this week: Scripture – Philippians 1: 1-18a, Paul is writing from prison and telling the church in Philippi that even his imprisonment is working to further the gospel of Jesus. Do I agree or disagree with him? You’ll have to come on Sunday and find out! My reflection title is Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved. It’s also the title of a book by Kate Bowler.

I’m leaving this up from last week: Pentecost is coming up on June 5th and we are going to be hearing the choir sing a new to us one from from More Voices, and we are going to be invited to sing along with at least the chorus. Byron is going to spend a few minutes teaching before the service starts, and if you want to get a head start, you can listen to this YouTube version!

This week! I am recording a video Spiritual Reflection for the United Churches for Dartmouth, Worship Committee Meeting, Food Bank, the Annual Meeting of the Association of United Church Clergy and the fourth and final session in the Stewardship training that Jim, Sandra and I are doing on-line.

Janet MacLean and Ryan Gomes are sharing a bit about why they chose the hymns they did.

I was at a funeral at Riverview United Church in Elmsdale last week and outside their church they have this ‘Blessing Box.’ It’s a Little Free Pantry and it’s built in the shape of their church! The Transition Team talked about this on and off over the last couple of years, but other things took priority, maybe it’s time to revisit the idea! You can read more about Little Free Pantries here.

I’m forgoing my Tech Sabbath this Friday as I was off on Monday!

We love to hear from our readers!
